It was in 1999 that Peter Hughes, Holden’s manager of exterior design, composed a two-dimensional drawing representation of the VE composed prior by Michael Simcoe, Holden’s design director at the time. Known internally as the “Bill of Design,” the composite composed the design foundation for the production-ready car. The VE Commodore converted its look from its prior models, like the VE LED lights, the lower-profile side window design, and drawn out wheelbase, but the general look was still bold and domineering.
Commodore models had always diversified the look of their tail lights, employing several altered looks.
There were the basic VE LED lights for the inexpensive models, and then deluxe variants for more luxurious models.
As a matter of fact, the VE Omega was designed red rounder lights for its clear reverse and indicator lights. The Calais and Berlina models were beautified with a tri-striped design.
The SSV variation to the VE Commodore contained distinctive VE LED lights. The VE LED lights included a black reflector, along with a chrome bezel with red centred lights, and clear reverse and indicator lamps.
The SSV tail lights are becoming the tail lights of choice for the VE Commodore, as they have become a favorite choice. <
Holden's Special Vehicles selected a different sheet metal to redo the tail lights. The new different sheet metal was a novel creation for HSV, as it had not used it earlier.
The HSV VE LED lights were rectangular shape, and Holden decided to have it go around the rear of the car. The lamps themselves were accentuated with twin round LED lights that were quite similar the famous Nissan Skyline. The HSV tail lights cannot manage to be fitted to standard Commodore models. The headlights of the VE LED lights were remade too. Also, the more luxurious models were given added additions for their VE LED lights.
The base models had black reflector headlights, but the luxurious VE Commodores, and the SSV had projector lamps, that were centred, lessened the aggressive stance.
The VE LED lights are one a big feature of the VE Commodore to this day.
